Wood Splits Easily

Question: We’re having a devilish of a time installing this wide plank Australian Cypress. The problem is the tongues keep splitting when we staple them in. What are we doing wrong?

Reply: Yes, Australian Cypress can be quite brittle until it’s installed. I would avoid staples and use 18 gauge cleat nails. Air pressure settings can be important as well. Don’t go too high. I’d stay in the low range (70 PSI) and see how it works.
